Ovary Pain – Is A Cyst On Your Ovary The Reason For Your Painful Ovaries?

Are you experiencing pain in your ovaries?

If so, it could be the result of having a cyst on your ovary

This is because, in a woman’s body, the ovaries are the organs most susceptible to developing a variety of cysts that are capable of causing ovary pain.

Where Are Your Ovaries?

About the size and shape of an almond, they are located in the pelvis, one on each side of the uterus.

where are your ovariesThe ovaries are responsible for producing the egg cells that allow a woman to conceive or get pregnant.

Each ovary is nestled under the fringed ends of the fallopian tubes, which are the pathway for a released egg to reach the center of the uterus where it can become fertilized.

Your ovaries are also the main source of female hormones, which control the development of female body characteristics such as breast size, body shape, and hair growth.

These hormones, known as estrogen and progesterone, also regulate the uterus and the menstrual cycle, as well as various stages of pregnancy.

It’s actually the ovary’s role in producing hormones and releasing eggs that is directly related to the formation of ovarian cysts.

Usually, cysts on ovaries occur during the reproductive years of a woman but they can take place in women of all ages.

What Is A Cyst On Ovary?

An ovarian cyst is a small sac filled with air or fluid that develops on or in one of the ovaries.

It’s very common for a woman to have cysts on her ovaries, especially during her childbearing years.

The ovulation process is a complicated one with many small steps that could go wrong which, in turn, could result in the formation of an ovarian cyst.

The most common type of ovarian cyst is a simple or functional cyst, aptly named because it develops as a normal function of a woman’s menstrual cycle.

There are two types of functional ovarian cysts.

Known as follicular cysts and corpus luteum cysts, they develop during different stages of the ovulation process.

Follicular Cysts

A woman’s eggs are stored in structures called follicles until they reach maturity and are “signaled” to be released by the estrogen and progesterone hormones. cyst on ovary

Sometimes, there is a hormonal imbalance and the follicle fails to release the egg.

When this happens, the follicle grows abnormally large and develops into a follicular ovarian cyst.

Corpus Luteum Cyst

This type of functional cyst normally occurs during the second phase of the menstrual cycle.

When an egg is released, the empty follicle sac it was once stored becomes a temporary secretory gland called the corpus luteum.

The corpus luteum is responsible for preparing the uterus for possible conception by producing large amounts of progesterone.

In some cases, instead of being absorbed back into the ovary once its job is done, the corpus luteum becomes sealed off and filled with fluid.

This causes the corpus luteum to enlarge and form a cyst.

Cyst On Ovary Symptoms

Many times, a woman may have an ovarian cyst and not even know it because it doesn’t cause any symptoms.

The majority of women experience only mild to moderate symptoms such as bloating and irregular menstrual cycles.

However, in rare cases, ovarian cysts may cause severe problems and need immediate medical attention.

Ovarian cysts can often be very painful.

The pain caused by a cyst on the ovary can range from a constant dull ache in the lower abdomen and back to a sharp pain in the ovaries

Ovary pain is the result of an ovarian cyst’s

  * Rapid growth  -  while a follicular or corpus luteum cyst can disappear on its own after a few weeks, some can grow as large as 3-4-inches in diameter.

  * Bleeding into itself  -  occurs when a blood vessel in the wall of an existing ovarian cyst breaks allowing blood to flow into the cyst …causing it to swell in size.

  * Rupture or bursting  -  this is a condition where the cell wall of the cyst has burst allowing its contents to spill out into the abdominal cavity, which can result in infection and complications of the surrounding organs.  There is also the possibility of internal bleeding.

  * Twisting your ovary  -  if the cyst has caused the ovary to twist around the ovarian ligament, a condition known as ovarian torsion develops.  This condition can cut off the blood supply to the ovary, causing severe pain and nausea.

An important point to keep in mind is that cysts on ovaries may develop for a variety of reasons, but experiencing any type of sharp pain in your ovaries is a definite sign that something has gone wrong with your cyst …something that needs to be taken care of.

If you are experiencing any type of pain in your ovaries, it’s important to see a doctor and get it checked out

Cyst On Ovary Diagnosis

How do you know if your ovary pain is being caused by a cyst on ovary?

Each type of ovarian cyst has its own distinctive traits, and you need to pay attention to any symptoms that suggest your condition may be getting worse.

As always, early detection is the key in treating most medical conditions.  With some types of ovarian cysts, complications can develop very quickly so it is particularly important to receive an early diagnosis.

If you feel that you have an increased risk of developing ovarian cysts, the smart thing to do is to keep regular tabs on your body.

Your regular medical checkups should be enough if your doctor is on the lookout for any type of ovarian cyst.

If your physician suspects the presence of a cyst on your ovary, further diagnostic options are available to you such as having an ultrasound performed.  An endovaginal ultrasound can reveal the nature of any ovarian cysts that are detected, allowing you to decide what type of treatment may be necessary.

Ovarian Cyst Treatment – Why Traditional Methods Fail To Give You Ovary Pain Relief

Being diagnosed with ovarian cysts is one of the biggest health concerns of women around the world.

Most of the time, the discomfort associated with ovarian cyst symptoms can be both physical and emotional.  Not only is there the ovary pain being caused by the cysts but also the fear and anxiety of how the cysts may affect your health and your life.

ovary pain - cyst on ovaryTo help relieve your fear, you need to have an understanding of these cysts, why they may have developed and, more importantly, know that you can get relief from the pain.

I want to start out by letting you know that ovarian cysts are the most common health problem experienced by women of child-bearing age.

Ovarian Cysts are small fluid filled sacs that develop in or on the ovaries

Ovarian cysts normally develop because there is something wrong with the chemistry of your body.  For example, a hormonal imbalance or improper insulin level can be responsible for many of the cysts that women have on a recurring basis.

Because not all ovarian cysts will produce symptoms, a woman may have one or more cysts at some point in her life without even knowing she has one.

However, a large number of women will experience a wide range of symptoms such as ovary pain, bloating, irregular menstrual cycles, and even infertility.

This is an important item to remember.  Ovarian cysts may develop for a variety of reasons, but ovary pain is a definite sign that something has gone wrong with the cyst …and that it needs to be taken care of.

Ovarian Cyst Treatment

When most women find out that they have an ovarian cyst and decide to get rid of it, they only look at the surgical or medical options.  This is because most doctors go the traditional route of either expensive prescription medicine or surgical removal.

Surgical Removal

Surgery is a common medical treatment recommended for removal of ovarian cysts, although it is not considered to be a permanent solution.

Having your cysts removed by surgery does not remove the underlying problem that caused the cysts to develop in the first place.  The underlying cause will still be there and new cysts will continue to develop.

Medical Options

Medical options include hormonal treatment such as the use of birth control pills.

These pills are designed to help normalize the menstrual cycle and avoid the formation of follicles that may develop into cysts.

However, using the pill and other types of hormonal treatments can lead to a wide range of side effects if used for a long period of time.

As you can see, there are problems with both of the traditional treatments.  They are only temporary solutions to your condition and do not treat ovarian cysts long term.

Also, for many women, these treatments aren’t really an option…especially if they plan on having children, or just don’t feel comfortable taking hormonal treatments or having surgery.

Natural Ovarian Cyst Relief

It’s important to find a treatment that actually works, and doesn’t just cover up the symptoms.

As mentioned before, ovarian cysts normally develop because of an imbalance in your system …so one of the easiest ways to eliminate them is to simply get your system back in balance.

The good news is that there are proven alternative treatments that are very effective and can be done at home.  These natural treatments can provide quick relief from the ovary pain  and discomfort you are experiencing, while also preventing cysts from coming back in the future.
